STANLEY CUP FINALS, GAME 5

THE FAT LADY IS WARMING UP

So the Penguins are down 3 games to one. Of course, there's still time for them to pull it together and win three straight. They certainly have the fire power to do it.

Will it happen? Probably not.

Why? A couple reasons...first of all, this is Sid & Company's first foray into the Finals. The Wings have been here before. This means they have a better handle on what the officials do and don't call. In the meantime, the Penguins keep looking for the interference calls that aren't going to come.

In fact, when Pittsburgh was on a power play Saturday night, Crosby skated into Andreas Lilja in order to draw an interference penalty. The gamble paid off, getting them the 5-on-3, even if they weren't able to convert. It could have just as easily have been Sid coughing up the puck and the Wings clearing the zone.

It could very well be that this is the Penguins' version of 1983, where they do their final cutting of teeth before they start winning some Cups. The talent is certainly there.

The problem at this point is, they are too worried about interference instead of playing through it. The Wings are in their heads, and they have 60 minutes left to get them out of there.
