Friday Night Fights: Kickin' It Old School

Tonight we hop into the wayback machine...

for a trip back to the early 1980's.  This was a time when enforcers were still versatile players.  Guys who could skate, shoot, score and fight if necessary.  Two of the best of the time were Terry O'Reilly and Clark Gillies.

"Bloody" O'Reilly played for the Boston Bruins from 1972 until 1985.  While best known for his toughness, O'Reilly could play the game, he had four 20 goal seasons and had 90 points in the 1977-78 season.  He also once famously climbed into the stands at Madison Square Garden to beat up a Rangers fan.  I think anybody who has met a Rangers fan would agree that the guy probably deserved it (right Fork?).

Clark Gillies played 12 of his 14 NHL seasons with the New York Islanders, winning 4 consecutive Stanley Cups with the team, while compiling 319 goals, 378 assists and 1023 penalty minutes.  He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2002, and if number of fight videos on Youtube is any indication, he hated Terry O'Reilly's guts.

Here's my favorite of the bunch.

Gillies was a bad-ass. My favorite was him putting Ed "Boxcar" Hospodar on a stretcher.

When he went into the MSG stands, didn't he take a guys shoe and start beating him with it?

    I specifically remember seeing this.

If that happened today, people would have a heart attack.
