WINTER CLASSIC TOMORROW: College Football Fan Distraught

A local college football fan was heard voicing his dismay over the Winter Classic between the Chicago Blackhawks and the Detroit Red Wings, scheduled to take place on New Years Day.

"Who schedules hockey for New Years' Day?" he asked. I plan on getting up in the morning, fresh from enjoying the Insight Bowl and Chick-Fil-A Bowl on New Years' Eve, getting set up in my mancave with the three TVs, getting ready for the Outback Bowl, followed by the Capital One Bowl and Gator Bowl, topped off with the Rose Bowl Game Presented by Citi, and the Fedex Orange Bowl. How could they stick a hockey game in the middle of all that?"

He lamented the changing of some games' dates. "The Cotton Bowl is on the 2nd now. How can that not be on New Years' Day? Where's the tradition? Now it's on the same day as the Autozone Liberty Bowl and the Allstate Sugar Bowl."

He went back to January 1. "There's only five bowl games on, all because of some stupid hockey game. How am I supposed to enjoy New Years Day with only 5 games?"

He grudgingly tried on a hockey helmet, after being told both sports did indeed have helmets. "This helmet doesn't even have a cage. Not even a face bar. At least punters wear that."

When told many NHL players in fact attend college, he replied, "Sure, Jonathan Toews went to North Dakota, but they have a lousy football program. At least Adam Burish went to Wisconsin. They get to a bowl every 20 years."
