Playoff Payoff: Hawks 3, Preds 1

PLAYOFFS!

The Hawks are in it.  After 7 long years, they're back in the playoffs.  Granted, there's still home ice to play for, but for this night only, we can enjoy just getting in.

Okay, enjoyment's over.  The Hawks beat the Preds with another solid effort tonight.  The team defense was once again very good and the Hawks cashed in on just enough chances to win.

THE GOOD

Jonathan Toews:  Toews was his usual bad-ass self, scoring his 32nd goal of the season and assisting on Marty Havlat's empty netter to ice the game.  While the team has been up and down during the last month, Toews and Havlat have been the two guys that can be counted on night in and night out.  Man is this kid good.

Samwise Pahlsson:  Evidently, Sammi is a scorer now.  He got his second goal as a Hawk tonight, and he, Ladd and Byfuglien were the Hawks best line for most of the night.

Nikolai Khabibulin:  Robbed of a shutout against the Blues, Khabi came right back with another good effort, preserving the Hawks 1 goal lead until Havlat scored with just over a minute left to give Chicago some cushion.

THE BAD

Patrick Sharp:  Sharp made a nice diving attempt at a centering pass during the first period and collided with Nashville goalie Pekka Rinne.  Unfortunately, not only did Sharp fail to score on the play, but he suffered the dreaded "lower body injury" and did not return to the game.  Let's hope this is something minor, and not an aggravation of his knee injury from earlier this season.

Matt Walker:  Um, Matt?  Let me tell you something.  You don't really belong out there.  I certainly have no idea why Joel Quenneville would play you over Aaron Johnson, but that's his call.  But as long as you're going to be on the ice with your limited speed, skill and range, how about you not make things worse by trying to make idiotic cross-ice passes in your own zone?  You're not Phil Fucking Housely you know.

THE UGLY

The Hawks are in the playoffs, so we'll celebrate with a fight that features a Blackhawk that played on their last playoff team.  Mark Bell was supposed to be the Hawks Mark Messier.  Sadly, Bell couldn't score, couldn't pass and couldn't really fight.  Here he is showing off his inability to fight against Jordin Tootoo.

I recapped the game figuring you guys would be out setting cars on fire like this was Montreal and we'd just won a first round playoff series.

Yeah, some dude in front of me at the game wore a Savard jersey with the name "BOOGIE BOY".

I went straight home, because Huey's bike is near my place anyway.
