Ah, Just Get It Over With: Hawks 3, Blue Jackets 4 (SO)
Is it the playoffs yet? Really, I've had enough of the regular season. While it's nice that the Hawks broke their season attendance record (as we were reminded every commercial break), I'm ready for the second season to begin. Granted, the Hawks are still sort of playing for seeding, but they've also been playing teams that are fighting for their playoff lives, so really, we're just hoping that nobody gets hurt. Tonight was pretty annoying, as the Hawks blew a 2 goal lead, then blew a 1 goal lead then lost in a shootout after a bad call by the ref gave the Hawks a power play with 30 seconds left in OT, instead of correctly awarding Bolland a chance at a penalty shot, during which he surely would have employed his patented forehand-backhand-forehand-bank the puck off the side of the net move.
THE GOOD
Nikolai Khabibulin: The stats don't bear it out, but Khabi was good tonight, making several in-close stops on the BJs, and some nice plays around the net to prevent scoring chances. He also stoned Rick Nash on a penalty shot.
Power Play: They finally scored a goal. So there's that.
Dave Bolland: All kidding aside, Bolland did a good job forcing turnovers and getting scoring chances off them tonight. He even made his skate past the net tactic work for him by banking a goal in off of a diving Rick Nash from behind the goal line.
THE BAD
Toews-Havlat-Kane: I thought this line played okay, but they were also on the ice for all 3 Blue Jackets goals. That isn't good.
Matt Walker: Please, Matt, just go away. You've served your purpose as a fill in, and now it's time to take a seat in the press box. Don't make me take a tire-iron to your knee. I'll do it.
THE UGLY
Blown Leads: Blowing a two leads in a game at home like that is inexcusable. Quenneville often talks about how important it is for the Hawks to score the first goal. Didn't seem to be all that important tonight.
Dave Bolland's breakaway move: Maybe you should just pass it, Dave.

Campbell's pass for Seabrook's first goal is why Blackhawk fans (myself included) should just appreciate the things he can do that nobody else on the team is able to do. Damn, that was sweet.

I've been saying a great line would be the "Press Box" line of
Foley-Olczyk-Walker

Fork, he hasn't scored a goal in six years.
Plus, he's never one of the top four of the six defenders the Hawks dress (from a defensive perspective).
I knew why the Hawks signed him.
I just had no clue he was this inept defensively.
Ah, well. Hopefully he'll start playing better offensively after that beautiful ootlet pass.
