GOOSE EGG FOR EASTER: Blackhawks 3, Red Wings 0
The Chicago Blackhawks ended their regular season in fine stead today, with Nikolai Khabibulin stopping 37 shots while Andrew Ladd, Jonathan Toews and Dave Bolland each got goals to lead the Blackhawks to a 3-0 shutout of the Detroit Red Wings.
Let's get right to it:
THE GOOD:
Some dude got a one-shot "shoot the puck" chance from center ice for $100,000. Wherever he went tonight, rest assured he bought. The whole place went nuts for him.
The Penalty kill. They held the Wings to 0/5. Good killing is how you get past the first round.
Khabibulin. He is in the zone. When he's playing like this, there's no telling what the Hawks can accomplish.
THE BAD:
Taking penalties. The Hawks had more time in the box than Detroit did. They can't afford to do that in the playoffs.
THE UGLY:
The Power Play, even though the stats show them going 1/3. They weren't setting up and cycling. Bolland just blasted one past Chris Osgood, but they need to watch some Detroit game tapes to se how it's done. Only Khabibulin kept this game with the happy result.
Next up is Thursday night's first playoff game, in the United Center, where Joel Quenneville gots stache-to-stache against Mike Keeenan. This is what we've been waiting for.
