GETTING CLOSER: Blackhawks 5, Flames 1

The Chicago Blackhawks decided that the most critical point the franchise has had in years would be the ideal time to play their best game all season, completely dominating the Calgary Flames in front of over 22,000 fans in the United Center.

The Flames never got untracked, getting their first shot on goal after the 10 minute mark in the third period. The Hawks led 3-0 after the first, and never looked back.

The Hawks continued their aggressive play from the end of Game 4, and it paid off big, with the goals being scored by 5 different players, and Mikka Kiprusoff watching the end of it from the Calgary bench after being pulled trailing 4-1.

Let's get to it:

THE GOOD:

Special teams. The first tally for the Hawks was a Power Play goal. They were 1/5 on the night, but looked effective, even on non-scoring efforts. The kill was fantastic, going 0/4, including a 3-on-5 for 1:29. The Flames never even had chances to set up with the man advantage.

The Bolland/Havlat/Ladd line. As bad as they were the other night, that's how good they were tonight. Bolland still only won 38% of his faceoffs, but he and Ladd combined for 6 hits, and all three players were +2 on the night.

Brent Seabrook. What a huge game. A goal, two assists, 5 hits, a couple blocked shots. Oh, and he skated 25 minutes. The second half of this season, and this playoff so far, has really been his time of emergence. He was nothing short of outstanding tonight. Notice should also be given to Duncan Keith, who looked like the #2 we've come to know and love. Just a great game from these two, along with Barker.

Ben Eager. When the Flames decided to try getting chippy with him, all he did was turn that jagoff Adam Pardy's face into hamburger. Straightened his ass right out.

THE BAD:

The Flames were apathetic near the end of the game, and the Hawks got some of that apathy on them. The last 6 or so minutes of the game, both teams were just going through the motions, and it resulted in some sloppy hockey. It's a little nitpicky, I know, but we've had a "Bad" in every game, and this was all you could really come up with.

THE UGLY:

After the final horn sounded, the TV cameras panned through the jubilant crowd, and managed undergo a stress test by showing our very own Mike D. Ho Lee Shit. HD does you no favors my friend.

Game 6 is Monday night at 8:30 from the Saddledome in Calgary.

The Hawks have two coffin nails to use. Here's hoping they nail that fucker shut with one.
