OUR BABY TURNS ONE YEAR OLD

It all started with a shoutbox and a torn labrum.

Over a year ago, two meatheads were on the great shoutbox over at Hire Jim Essian! lamenting the fact that while HJE and Desipio were the two finest blogs offering content pertaining to the Chicago Cubs, we were unable to find anything that struck the delicate balance between the Chicago Blackhawks and dick jokes. This was a gap that needed to be bridged.

So, in one of those exchanges that will forever live in history...

Fork or CT: I was thinking about starting a Blackhawks blog

Whichever one wasn't the first one: So was I

First one: Want to do one together? It's cheaper that way

Second one: Uh, OK

And a legend was born.

While Fork was recovering from surgery after tearing his labrum playing softball (Proof that old bastards like him should refrain from physical activities like this...we're looking at YOU, Chris Chelios), he used his meager skills to put together what you see here. CT was busy working for a living, and figured if Fork worked on this, he wouldn't have time to bother anyone with his shitty one-liners. It was evident then that CT was the Idea Man.

On June 3, 2008, HOCKEENIGHT launched its maiden report, in which the PIttsburgh Penguins were pretty much declared dead, since they were more concerned about whether the referees' arms were coming up or not than they were about actually playing hockey, and being pushed around by the Wings in the process.

How far we've come since then.

Several Blackhawks blogs were launched around the same time as us, and having hosted almost every Hawks blogger on our PUCKCASTS, we can say with certainty that we haven't found any that are any more dickish than we are. We all picked the perfect time to start, since the Blackhawks have, for the first time in well over a decade, become a team worthy of caring about and commenting on...in fact, they've pretty much sucked since before Al Gore invented the Internet.

So 99 Hawks' games later, 258 entries (before this one) 28 PUCKCASTS, and countless FRIDAY NIGHT FIGHTS, Fork and CT are celebrating their first Anniversary by not speaking to each other. Truth be told, they really don't care for each other much.

Seriously, everyone at HOCKEENIGHT thanks everyone for stopping by, reading, commenting, listening to our 'casts, and hanging out in the Shoutbox during games.

Thanks also go out to Bad Kermit at HJE and Andy at Desipio for giving us the framework that we use for what you see here. They both have far superior sites to this one, but this is the Hawks' one, so here we are. Truth be told, neither of them care much for Fork and/or CT either. (they actually do think CT is cool - ed.)

So thanks to all once again, and the bad news is that Fork and CT have paid for another 2 years of this crap.

GO HAWKS!!!

Congratulations on your achievement. Your first posting was on the anniversary of D-Day. How appropriate.

I remember Chris telling me on the train about another Hawks blog. I told him that I read only one and my wife thought that was one too many.

I really loved the Luna schnozz. I think it got us to the conference finals.

    See you next September.

D-Day was June 6. Yeah, I'm one of those assholes who goes around correcting people.

September? Don't think we're taking the summer off, not with the draft, free agency, and our coverage of the Hawks Convention that got National attention last summer.

Luna Schnozz pretty much blocked the crease on the PK.

        Reading is a skill.

I forgot about all the draft insight I can pick-up here.

The date of the conversation Fork details above was May 25th, 2008 which was a really weird day. The Sons of Jim Essian (featuring Desipio regulars Pre, Apex, TDubbs and Bad Kermit hisself) split a double header and headed over to Mullen's for post game celebration. Despite it being roughly 1pm on Sunday, Mullen's was somehow completely out of Old Style (the special that day). The Cubs played an afternoon start in Pittsburgh, but we missed about 20 minutes of the game when the TV feed got knocked out by a hail storm. Later, we made the acquaintence of a Vietnam veteran with no tongue who for some reason and had Al Yellon's business card in his wallet.

With 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th inning Alfonso Soriano lost a routine flyball off the bat of Nate McClouth in the sun, then collapsed on the ground and let it fall in for a game-tying double (during extra innings, Bob Brenly famously stated that "you could throw a dart in the Cubs' dugout and hit a better fielder than Alfonso Soriano"). The Cubs lost 6-5 in extras, and there was much DOOM.

With all that happened that day, it's a wonder we even remembered to start the damn blog.
