Friday Night Fights: Life in the Minors

If you spent 10 years playing minor league hockey, you'd be pissed off too.

I'm sure Andy Bezeau thought he's someday play in the NHL.  Bezeau was taken 231st overall in the 1990 NHL entry draft by the Boston Bruins.  While that's not very high, keep in mind this was a pretty good draft.  In fact, one third of the players taken in the first round went on to be NHL All-Stars.  The Blackhawks managed to dodge that bullet by drafting Karl Dykhuis in the first round, Ivan Droppa in the 2nd, and no one else of note, except maybe Steve Dubinsky who managed to make the Hawks a few times by dressing up as Jeff Shantz.  The 1990 draft wasn't a total bust for Chicago though, as they managed to acquire via trade both enforcer Wayne Von Dorp and the greatest Hawk to ever wear number 26, Jocelyn Lemieux (up yours, Brent Grieve).

But back to Andy Bezeau.  Being drafted would be the highlight of Andy's career, as he would never see the inside of an NHL arena without paying for a ticket.  Instead, Bezeau met the fate of most hockey players, playing his entire career in the minors.  But Bezeau was a different kind of cat.  He would not go quietly in that good night, no Bezeau would channel his anger into fighting everyone and everything that moved.  During a 10 year career, Bezeau amassed 4375 minutes and if youtube is any indication, he earned every one of them.  Not bad for a guy who stood in at 5'9" and 185 lbs.

Anyway, Andy Bezeau will no longer toil in total anonymity.  At least not on Hockeenight.  Here's Andy doing what he does best.  Kicking ass.

I've been in the penalty box with both of these guys when they stopped through the Quad Cities in their UHL days. A couple of first-class ding-dongs.
