ONE (ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS) GOAL: Blackhawks 3 Wild 1
Last season we recapped 99 games. We'll recap them all this year too.
There are times when you do this enough, you try to come up with something catchy, maybe some way to describe the Minnesota Wild.
You would go with something that rhymes, like "Mild Wild".
You can try some alliteration, like "Woeful Wild".
For this one, we went alliterative..."Wowtheseguysareshitty Wild".
Martin Havlat makes his regular season return to the United Center, and is completely denied, 1 shot on goal and -2 on the night.
Let's get to it...
THE GOOD:
Patrick Kane's goal. Somebody better call a doctor, because this goal is absolutely sick.
Cristobal Huet. Stopping 20 of 21 shots, that's 1 goal in 2 games. As much as the Meatballs are all shopping for goalies, the last two games have been a nice hot cup of Shut The Fuck Up.
Kris VERSTEEG! He had no goals, no assists, but he skated 24 shifts, and made things happen on all of them. Nice scoring chance off a back check. He provided a lot of energy.
THE BAD:
Penalties. The Hawks outplayed the Wild all over the ice, and took 8 penalties. That's inexcusable...sure, they've been better at staying out of the box than any team in the league, but they were lucky they were playing a shitty team.
THE UGLY:
Faceoffs. The Hawks lost 66% of faceoffs. Only Minnesota's ineptitude with the puck prevented this outcome from being less than a happy one.
Still, two points are two points. Coming up next is yet another exciting tilt with the Predators, this time down in Music City.

HockeeMen, like yew all said...two points is two points.
These are the kinds of games and the kinds of teams that gave the Hawks headaches last year.
It is my considered opinion that Doctor John (Madden, that is) brought some of his Jersey juju with him.
Responsible defense? Taut penalty killing? Ability to make a one goal lead stand up in the third, and add one more (wotta shot by 20Cent!!!!) to boot?
Welcome to the Chicago Devil Hawks.
Works for me.
And lo, Brent the Bashful was solid again.

How bout Madden and Bolland on the kill?
I still think Bolland's back isn't 100%. For him to be playing well with that discomfort, that's big.
And Troy Brouwer? Well, if that young man can start to consistently clean up around the net...the sky is the limit.

This game was awesome.
Kane shot that puck perfectly into the small area that was open. Amazing.
I noticed you guys were putting up the Mullet Guy and The Schnozz. The young lady and I have the pictures of both on our phones and when a penalty comes up, she sends the Schnozz to me. It has worked every time but once. We are going to keep it going when we aren't watching the games together.

If there is a meatball parade, Mike North is the grand marshal. This morning on that abomination of a morning show they do, he said, "Niemmi is still clearly the number one guy, but they can still split time like Khabibulin and Huet did last year."

So North didn't see Niemi's game of dodge ball in the third period of the Vancouver game.

I am surprised there hasn't been a reference to Jaques LeMaire and the neutral zone trap. CT must have been sleeping.
