HOOKED, GAFFED, AND LANDED: Blackhawks 7 Sharks 2

The Sharks fans in San Jose have been accustomed to going to the arena each night and seeing the best team in the Western Conference.

Tonight was no different, with one exception:

The best team in the Western Conference was wearing Indian heads on their sweaters.

The Chicago Blackhawks came into the HP Pavilion in San Jose, where the Sharks hadn't lost in regulation this season, and laid a big-league asswhipping on the Sharks, winning 7-2.

This game also marked the debut of Marian Hossa, and he didn't disappoint,
showing the faithful back in Chicago that the contract he signed just might be justified.

Let's get to it:

THE GOOD:

The Blackhawks came into tonight's game with the best penalty kill in the NHL. The Sharks scored more power play goals than anyone else in the NHL. So what happened? Three shorthanded goals. Troy Brouwer in the first period, then Hossa and Patrick Sharp in the same kill in the second.

Marian Hossa. Geez, this guy is good.  He added an even strength goal to his shortie, off a sweet setup pass from Darryl. He was poking pucks away from Sharks all night. As our friends at Fifth Feather said, he'd probably come out hot in the first game, then show a little fatigue over the next few games. Let's hope the other Hawks can withstand it.

Duncan Keith. Another 3 assists tonight, and +4. I'll take another 13 years of this, please.

Brouwer. He started the scoring with his shortie, and added an assist. He has elevated his play exponentially this season, and has been a real factor in the Hawks' success.

Offensive pressure. 21 shots in the second period alone. The Hawks were aggressive, and were looking to make a statement against the Sharks. I'm pretty sure everyone heard it.

THE BAD:

The Hawks got lazy on defense in the last 4 minutes, allowing 2 Sharks goals. Cristobal Huet was good tonight, and he deserved a shutout.

THE UGLY:

The Sharks looked like the team that was in the midle of a 6-game road trip. They were flat, and Jason Demers' tripping on the red line allowed Sharp's shortie.

Oh, and Brian Campbell played 20 regular season games for San Jose, then the playoffs. Two seasons ago. They boo him every time he touches the puck as if he played there forever and just left. Get over it.

Coming up next if a Friday afternoon tilt in Anaheim against the red-hot Ducks and George Parros' moustache. See you in the shoutbox.

Great game. This team is scary good at this point and Pat Foley mentioned that this team has not yet played with their complete team.

One thing you guys didn't mention in the recap were the numerous penalties against the Blackhawks. I know they are killing the majority of the penalties (Thank you Luna Schnozz) but it would be nice to see them cut down on them.
