These Guys Again?: Hawks 1, Preds 4

Barry Trotz enjoys a soak

Well, that sucked.  Seriously, I'm sick of watching the Predators.  Of course, I'm sick of watching Tomas Kopecky too, but here I am.  The Hawks took on the Predators for the 57th time this season, and lost to them in bad fashion.  While the consensus seemed to be that the Columbus game on Tuesday could serve as a trap game, it turned out that this was the trap the Hawks fell into.  Perhaps looking ahead to tomorrow night's matchup with the Penguins (I know I was) the Hawks played a sloppy game, and got beat.  Granted, Danny Ellis had to stand on his head to get the win, but that's how it goes sometimes.

THE GOOD

Jonathan Toews:  I guess the new contract hasn't made Toews complacent.  The Captain scored a highlight reel goal, undressing a defenseman and schooling Danny Ellis with a hellacious move.

Brent Sopel:  Sope's been solid this season, and on a night when the Hawks weren't particularly good, Sope sneaks into the The Good by blocking a shot with the inside of his knee (OUCH!) and not missing a shift.

Danny Ellis:  Despite a subpar game, the Hawks had plenty of chances and were in Ellis' face all night.  Give him credit, he made a 1 goal lead stand up until the Preds could tack on two more at the end of the game.

THE BAD

Hjalmarsson/Campbell:  No one covered themselves in glory on defense tonight, but Hjalmarsson in particular seemed out of sorts, turning the puck over and making some bad decisions against odd man rushes.  And those bad choices left his partner Campbell alone to defend, and nobody wants to see that.

Open Nets:  The Hawks had plenty of shots at open nets, and couldn't hit them.  Gotta bury those chances.

THE UGLY

Fuck it.  Hawks play the Penguins tomorrow night.  Let's fight.

Every time I hear a hockey fan make fun of the Predators, I remind them that Edward G Robin--oops, Barry Trotz, might just be the best coach in the National Hockey League.

And David Poile might just be the best GM.

    Hard work trumps talent.

If Dustin Byfuglien learned to play like Joel Ward, the Hawks would be unbeatable.

And say what you want, Shea Weber and Ryan Suter are two of the best top 2 d-men around.

Hell, the Preds beat the Hawks, plain and simple, fellers.

    Pour me another one.
