FRIDAY NIGHT FIGHTS: A Blast From The Past
This is one for the ages, from December 7, 1963.
We offer it tonight in honor of our last two PUCKCAST guests, Dave Morris and Julian from Pension Plan Puppets. It's for Dave - who is even older than Fork. It's for Julian, who loves the Leafs. Hell, we might as well throw it out to Down Goes Brown, even though he's currently incarcerated for mopary.
It starts with two legendary tough guys, Reg Fleming of the Hawks and Bob Baun of the Leafs. From there, all hell breaks loose.
It's a long clip, so grab a drink & snack. But damn, it's fun.

GLORIOUS!!!
The takedown at the 5:22 mark is the best.

This is why Ben Eager and not Jordan Hendry should be wearing Reggie's number. Get Benny a Reggie buzzcut too.
Isn't mopery a felony BTW?
This clip is classic. I think Foster Hewitt had turned the TV broadcasts by this time over to his son Bill (who sounds spookily like Foster).
An excellent demonstration of why the NHL should bring back tube skates, leather and felt pads, and wood sticks.
Oh, and has Stan signed Laraque yet? There's still time.

So back in 1963, the fine for a 5 minute bench clearing brawl, which involves the crowd no less, was (in today's dollars) a bit under $150 per player (and no suspensions). Seems fair to me.
