See, I knew the Hawks could
beat these chumps. Dave Tippett should be coach of the year.
I don’t care where his team finishes in the standings, he’s managed
to win 9 straight games with guys like Lee Stempniak, Radim Vrbata,
Adrian Aucoin and Jim Vandermeer playing major minutes. What the
hell is that?
Some might say it’s luck,
or fate, or a conspiracy or just hellacious goaltending, but Tippett’s
probably got something to do with it. Anyway, the 9 game winning
streak is history, and the Hawks look like they’re finding their team
defense again. If they start getting efforts like this on a consistent
basis again, maybe the fans won’t have to spend the playoffs breathing
into a paper bag after all.
THE GOOD
Patrick Kane: When Kane
was on the ice, the Blackhawks offense looked its best. He
held the puck and created chances for himself and his mates, the big
one coming when he wristed one past Illya Bryzgalov for the Hawks first
goal.
Antti Niemi: What we’ve
been saying is that we don’t need great goaltending, just a goalie
to make the saves at big moments. Niemi was up to the challenge
tonight, making several big saves in the 3rd period to
preserve
the Hawks 2 goal lead, and get himself a shutout.
Penalty Kill: The Hawks
killed every penalty with relative ease. Plus, Mark Giangreco
Roman Wrestler said it was good, and who am I to argue with him?
THE BAD
Power Play: I keep telling
myself I’m going to stop beating this dead horse, but the Hawks failed
on 4 PPs including another lengthy 5 on 3. This REALLY needs to
get better for the playoffs.
The Third Period: They
didn’t blow the lead this time, but the Hawks were definitely scrambling
again. You’d like to see them rediscover their killer instinct
and run up some scores instead of hanging on for dear life to get the
win.
THE UGLY
Phoenix: This is what an offense staffed by guys like Adrian Aucoin and Lee Stempniak should look like.
