RESET: Hawks 3, Avs 4 (OT)

Welcome, to the 2010-2011 season.  Of course, because the NHL hates me personally, the Hawks opened on the road with a 9:30 start.  Guh.

Anyway, we were looking to get a lot of questions answered tonight, for example: how would Nick Leddy look in his first NHL game (understandably shaky); would the Hawks team defense suffer from the loss so many players (a bit); how'd Marty Turco look (pretty good); how long would Q wait before switching up his lines (18 minutes); how old was Matt Duchene when the Avs won the Cup (5).

Granted, this is all after one game, so these things could change (except for the Duchene thing).  Let's get back to it:

THE GOOD

Marty Turco:  Let's hope this becomes a habit.  The 4 goals allowed looks pedestrian, but Turco shut the Avs down on several in-close chances and faced down several odd man breaks to get the game into overtime.  He's a lot more athletic than we're used to, although I do wish he'd ease back on the puck handling.  We know you can do it, Marty, but that doesn't mean you have to try it every time.

Brian Bickell:  Bickell found himself alone with the puck at the top of the faceoff circle on the Hawks first PP, and he blew one past Craig Anderson.  He looked faster than last year too.

Marian Hossa:  The best player on the ice tonight.  A goal and an assist, and he could have had more.

THE BAD

Forwards on the Point:  Just because it's a new year, doesn't mean I can't beat my old drum.  Quenneville used both Sharp and Bolland as point men on the power play, and it resulted in several odd man rushes for the Avalanche.  Brian Campbell needs to get healthy and this shit needs to be buried once and for all.

Slovak Affirmitive Action:  I get it, Tomas Kopecky and Marian Hossa have some kind of telepathic link because they're from the same country.  That doesn't mean they need to play on the same line.  Bickell and Brouwer both belong on that line over Kopecky, but for now it looks like Q's going to try keep the Motorboat Line together in an attempt to have 3 legit scoring lines.

THE UGLY

Adam Foote:  I HATE Adam Foote.  Always have.  Always will.  How the fuck is this guy still playing?

DID YOU KNOW: Current Avs forward Matt Duchene was only 5 years old when Colorado won their first Stanley Cup.  Isn't it crazy that he was young in the past?
