SKILLE'S COMPETITION: Blackhawks 3, Kings 1

I know, you were sitting there in your living room letting the old Philco warm up thinking, "All the Hawks need tonight is big games from Jake Dowell and Jack Skille". Right?

Dowell scored a sweet goal, and Skille was a one-man swarm, showing a strong backcheck and laying the lumber to the tune of 6 hits, as the Chicago Blackhawks defeat the Los Angeles Kings, 3-1 in the United Center.

Let's get to it:

THE GOOD:

Skille. He played with a lot of jump and jam tonight. He took full advantage of playing on the top line, and threw his body all over the place. His best game as a Blackhawk.

Marty Turco. A huge game, stopping 33 shots, many of them point-blank. Hopefully the Hawks start toughening up in the defensive zone soon, and Turco won't have to be the savior on a nightly basis.

Viktor Stalberg. He got to the front of the net unmolested and banged home a rebound. He's still not going to take the body, but if he finds open ice frequently enough, does it matter?

THE BAD:

I would have put the Hawks' power play here until I saw the Kings' PP in action. They have badness of epic proportions.

Dave Bolland with another stinkaroo. Pretty much invisible all night, 4-11 on faceoffs. They keep switching wings, trying to get the third line going. As long as Bolland's playing like this, I'm not sure having rejuvenated versions of Gordie Howe and Bobby Hull on his wings. Hopefully he gets it going soon.

Turnovers. Niklas Hjalmarsson was coughing it up like a motherfucker. Even Jonathan Toews gave one away in the defensive zone. We've got 11 games under the tires now, you can't keep thinking it's rust. The discipline isn't there.

THE UGLY:

Marian Hossa leaving the game. Hopefully it's nothing serious. Especially since I think we've all seen enough Evan Brophey.

Next up is Edmonton on Friday night in the United Center. They've got some real good looking rookies. Tune in if you can't make it downtown.
