NO PAIN, NO GAIN, NO KANE: Blackhawks 4, Iggy & The Stooges 2
This could have gone better. Once Patrick Kane went skates-first into the boards and was helped off the ice and into the locker room, the best case scenario for the night was "Yeah, we won, but..." QStache said after the game that Kane's injury was "nothing real serious" and that he will be out "a little bit". Which means in hockey parlance, they didn't have to take a hacksaw to #88's leg. That being said, the Chicago Blackhawks went about their business, defeating the Calgary Flames 4-2 in a game in which every goal by each team was scored on the power play.
Let's get to it:
THE GOOD:
The Power Play. They went 4-9 on the night, including the elusive goal on the 5-on-3. The Flames came in looking to play a chippy game, and the Hawks made them pay.
Dave Bolland. 2 goals, 4 blocked shots, broke even on 26(!) faceoffs. This is one of the guys who has needed to get going, and he looked like the Bolland we saw in May and June last night.
Brent Seabrook. 3 assists, 6 hits. The man is going into full beast mode during his salary drive. I've said it before - he's been the Hawks' best player so far this season.
Corey Crawford. He overcame a putrid first period, where he was late on every shot, and covered his head on one high shot instead of playing the shot to come up big the rest of the way.
Jack Skille. Another guy dealing out the punishment, with 5 hits. He may never play up to his potential as a first-rounder, but he is busting his ass out there.
Bryan Bickell. I just finished saying, "What the hell is Bicks doing on the Power Play?" when he roofs his fifth goal of the year. If only he could bring this type of game on a nightly basis.
THE BAD:
Nick Boynton. He's just not very good at this game.
Undiscplined penalties. Some of the younger guys, like Jeremy Morin and Viktor Stalberg, took some dumb penalties. The Hawks spent 11:35 of this game shorthanded, which is entirely too much.
THE UGLY:
Kane's injury. I'm no doctor, but that didn't look very minor. Look for an announcement today that puts his return somewhere in January. This sucks more than a little. Get well soon, Marian.
The Hawks' next game is Wednesday night against the Dallas Stars and their old pal Adam Burish. I'm pretty sure Marty Turco wants the net for this one.

So, if you're Q, do you put Crawford, who keeps winning in net against the leaders of the Pac Division, or Turco, who isn't?
I understand y'all don't like NickyBoy, but enough already. The man has his limitations, he knows it, we all know it. Having Jassen Cullimore as a partner ain't gonna make Nicky an All-Star. Badabing!
TommyK got another point and had another strong game, TroyBoy goes AWOL, and Bicks does the trick. You tell me who's gonna get traded.
Kane gone 2-3 weeks, maybe more...?
And boy, was Toews p-o'd. He has every right to be. Thank your sweet bippy he's the best dang player in the NHL.

PS the Boden-Konroyd cartoon in the latest Committed Indian was hilarious.

The piece in last night's CI defending fighting was genius.

"The man has his limitations, he knows it" - I'd have to disagree here. If Boynton knew his limitations, he'd play within them, instead of pinching down to the goal line in the offensive zone.

CT, I will stop short of saying your cruel excoriation of Nicholas Boynton makes you the Savonarola of the Hawkey blogosphere.
Because you have interesting tastes when it comes to vodka.

...and how can one take issue with a man who enjoys handmade sweet tea vodka from South Carolina?

After seeing that injury, 4-6 weeks would be good news on Kane. Besides, I've already made a trade for Zach Parise that will more than make up for Kane's loss.
