Walking Wounded: Hawks 3, Stars 4 (SO)

Well at least the Hawks managed to get one point.  Seems like an odd thing to say after a team takes a 3-0 lead in the first period.  But after the Hawks were unable to score on a 5 on 3 power play (thanks in part to a terrible call on review) it was all Dallas the rest of the way.  Chicago was out hit and out played through most of the 2nd and 3rd periods and after a series of injuries left them short 3 skaters, they WERE lucky to get out of Dallas with a point.

THE GOOD

The First Period - The Hawks owned the Stars in the first 20 minutes, taking a 3-0 lead.  It was pretty much all downhill from there.

Patrick Kane - the Blackhawks were excellent in the first period, and nobody was better than Kaner.  He scored Chicago's first goal and assisted on the other two.

Marty Turco - He's always and adventure, but after the Hawks blew their 3 goal lead, Turco dragged them into overtime kicking and screaming to at least preserve one point.  He also got a nice salute from the Dallas fans during an early stoppage of play.

THE BAD

Injuries - Fernando Pisani, Viktor Stalberg and Ryan Johnson were all injured during the game, leaving the Hawks with only 9 forwards available to start the 3rd period.  The losses showed, as Chicago's forwards looked gassed down the stretch of this game.

Aggression - How did Dallas get themselves back in this game after being down 3-0?  The biggest factor was taking the physical play to Chicago, badly outhitting them 39-16.

THE UGLY

Mark Fistric's hit on Fernando Pisani certainly qualifies here.  Fistric got an elbow up and Pisani spun around and appeared to come down and hit is head against the Stars bench.  And ugly hit and injury, and it was a good sign that Pisani skated off under his own power.

Fuck Dallas, they're still Minnesota to me:

Even though three players went down, this team was up 3-0 with a few minutes to go in the second period. Two goals in those few minutes and the third one I believe three minutes into the third. The defense returned to crumbs and while Turco saved the game numerous times in the third, at least two of the goals he gave up should have been stopped. Then in the shootout, he was beat with ease every time.

For whatever reason, the Blackhawks just aren't getting the calls this year. Another bad call on Brouwer's "goalie interference". Then of course the would-be goal by Seabrook which Letohen caught behind the line but the video was inconclusive. As you said during the game, Toronto hates the Blackhawks.

I guess the only good news is that they are three points out of the last playoff spot with two less games played and 27 games remaining on the schedule. I would say 17-6-4 would be an ideal record to get into the playoffs. Phoenix are one of the teams they are chasing. Time to gain some ground.
