4/20 BUZZKILL: Last night's game in perspective

Last night was fun.

But before we get too far ahead of ourselves, there's a couple things to remember...

Roberto Luongo limped off the ice after the first period. The fact that he was back in net to start the second period in a series where the Canucks had a 3 games to none lead just illustrates why Alain Vigneault shouldn't even be allowed to play NHL11, let alone coach an NHL team.

So while it was fun for everyone to taunt Luongo during the second period onslaught, it was also apparent that he wasn't right - he was slow on shots, and not his usual mobile self.

So if there was any mental breakdown, it was Vigneault's, not Luongo's. In last year's Western Conference Semifinals, Vigneault was so badly outcoached by QStache that I was genuinely surprised that he kept his job this summer. Q was able to get his matchups on the road, and the Blackhawks/Canucks series the past three years have been driven by matchups...as much as Dustin Byfuglien may have been in Luongo's nightmares, I'm pretty sure Dave Bolland has caused night sweats for the Sedins as well.

Now, I also don't think last night's drubbing really had any psychological impact on the Canucks. While they've never been too terribly composed this time of year (again, the ultimate responsibility for this falls on Vignault), they can pretty much chalk this up to "just one game".

Now if the Hawks manage to avoid the handshake line tomorrow night, then we've got something. At that point, you've got the Canucks thinking, "We've got to win in Chicago, we can't run the risk of having a Game 7, where anything can happen." If there's any pucker factor at all right now, it's pretty negligible. If this series doesn't end tomorrow, all the Colon Blow in the world won't be able to help the Canucks. If there's a Game 7, they'll be able to turn coal into diamonds.

For now, the Hawks can stay loose. After being down 3-0, every minute of hockey they play from here on out is a bonus.

But, for now at least, last night was just one game. I wouldn't start talking miracles just yet.

But if the Hawks lose tomorrow, at least the last game in the United Center was a party instead of a funeral.
