Track Meet: Hawks 3, Avalanche 1

Wow.  That was a fun game.  Colorado came into this game having won 5 straight, and they did it using a style that would make Jacques Lemaire erotically asphyxiate himself.  The Avs use a damn the torpedoes approach, playing offense first and that other thing when it's necessary.

The Hawks didn't seem ready for the attack at first.  Colorado came out and blitzed them, outshooting Chicago 13-6 in the opening period, but Corey Crawford managed to get the Hawks to the break with a 1-0 lead.  The shots ended up evening out, but things never really settled down.  Both teams took turns blazing away at the opposing goaltender, and nearly every time, the goalies had the answer.  It wasn't necessarily textbook hockey, but it was fun to watch.  And even if you love the neutral zone trap, you can still enjoy the outcome.

THE GOOD

Corey Crawford: Hell of a game by Crawford.  Corey managed to survive seeing 13 shots in the first period, and withstood a furious rush at the end of the game as the Avs elected to go 6 on 4 in a late power play.

Sergei Varlamov: As good as Crawford was, Varlamov was even better.  He made several superhuman looking saves, maybe none better than his robbing of Marcus Kruger on an open side with 5 minutes to go in the game.

Dan Carcillo:  Ah, why the hell not?  In a run and gun game, Carcillo didn't look completely out of place, and made a sweet little pass to set up Jonathan Toews for a goal.

THE BAD

The Bad?  Shit, Qaddafi's dead, the Cardinals lost a World Series game by blowing a lead in the top of the 9th and the Hawks won and exciting game against what appears to be a good team.  Nothing bad about that.

Except maybe "Jack & Jill".  Jesus, is Adam Sandler just trying to see what kind of shit he can get away with making now?  I can only imagine he pitched this movie to a studio as some sort of practical joke, and they just gave him the money anyway.

THE UGLY

I don't know, how about this?

Egad.

Up next: the not quite as red hot as they were Colorado Avalanche come into the United Center on Saturday.  Let's hope for a repeat performance from all involved.
