Blown: Hawks 4, Bolts 5 (OT)

For a brief moment, it looked like the Hawks had control of this one.  That moment came a little more than 7 minutes into the second period when Dan Carcillo and Patrick Sharp scored 12 seconds apart to give the Hawks a 4-2 lead.  It seemed like this might finally take the piss out of the Lightning.  Instead, Steven Stamkos decided to skip around the rink untouched and score 2 goals to tie the game.

This truly was a weird contest.  Lots of chances in the first period, 8  total goals in the 2nd period and a third period in which both teams decided they'd like to get out of the building with one point.

THE GOOD

Dan Carcillo - Carcillo played on the fourth line tonight and he managed to spring himself on a breakaway by blocking a shot at the point, and then score on a beautiful back-hander.  Good on ya, Car Bomb.

Hossa/Kane/Sharp - Tampa wanted to spend the first two period sprinting up and down the ice, which played right into these guys hands.  This line was dominant, with goals from Hossa and Sharp at even strength (Sharp also netted one on the power play) and Kane getting 3 assists on the night.  It wasn't until Tampa settled down in the 3rd period that they were able to actually contain this line.

THE BAD

Defense - I'm not exactly sure what kind of defensive game plan the coaches had in mind, but allowing Steven Stamkos to wander around unmolested doesn't seem like a formula for success.  The Hawks kept losing track of Stamkos low in the zone and he made them pay 3 times.  Cripes he's good.

Overtime - The Hawks were terrible in overtime, looking completely disjointed, and going offsides 3 or 4 times.

Viktor Stalberg - Stalberg was credited with 7 shots on goal which astounds me because it seemed like he shot 5 or 6 more pucks wide or high of the net.  I know he's scored some goals lately, but if he's going to play with Toews and Brunette, he needs to bury the chances he's given.

THE UGLY

.873 - the combined save percentages for Dwayne Roloson and Ray Emery tonight.  I will actually cut Emery some slack tonight - there was little to nothing he could have done on those goals, but still, this isn't a game either guy will put on their resume.
