STURM UND DRANG: Trades
Here we are, less than halfway through the season. The Chicago Blackhawks have managed to amass 50 points in 37 games, and are sitting atop the NHL in points. So what's everybody talking about?Trades, naturally.
As well as the Hawks have been playing (bear in mind, as much of a shitshow as last night was, it was still only their 10th loss this season), there seem to be a lot of people fixating not on what the Hawks have, but what they need.
Everyone, for the love of God, chill the fuck out.
Would a true number 2 center be nice to have? Sure. Although, the guy who was the #2 on the Cup winner - Patrick Sharp - is still here.
But let's face it - right now the Hawks are in fine stead. The odds of them having to sweat out the last day of the season to see whether they make the playoffs or not are pretty remote. Even better, they've got a fuckload of Cap space. Even better still, they've got a loaded organization. The combination of dealing from strength, being able to afford virtually any player who will be available, and having plenty of prospects available means things will turn out pretty damn well.
Every GM in hockey knows the Hawks want to play to the parade this spring. They also know they can take on any contract. As soon as any team goes into Sell Mode, they're calling Stan Bowman.
Does that mean he has to make a deal now? Of course not. The trade deadline isn't until 5:00 PM Chicago time on February 27. There's still 2 months. A lot can happen in that time.
One bad hit or one skate catching the boards funny, and the landscape changes. The Hawks have been pretty fortunate on the injury front this year, and hopefully that continues. In the meantime, every time a Smith, Morin, Pirri or now Hayes shows up, every team has a scout watching. They're also watching Rockford and the Juniors.
If you want a trade to be made, relax. You'll get your wish eventually. If you want a good trade to be made, Stan Bowman is the man who traded Cam Barker for Nick Leddy. Take a deep breath and relax.

WORD.

Also, when a prospect is given up in a trade, it is the duty of all Hawks fans to react like we've sent Gretzky to LA.

Disagree. We need secondary scoring, so trade Toews to Carolina for Chad LaRose. And since we need defense, trade Kane to Dallas for Sheldon Souray. And since we lost to LA, trade Crawford, Hossa, Sharp and a first-round pick to the Kings for Jonathan Quick. All of this seems reasonable, and it will solve all of the 'Hawks problems. Hopefully with this comment I got you guys back on ESPN Insider in the rumors section.
