FATASS TUESDAY: Hawks 2, Wings 1

Damn that's good.  No, I'm not talking about the paczki's (although those were damn good too), I'm talking about the Blackhawks and Red Wings playing hockey.  I know certain people in the Shoutbox are petrified of the Wings, but I'd love to see these two teams in a playoff series this year.

In fact, the only downside to tonight's game was the absence of each team's best player from the lineup.  Jonathan Toews had flare up of Upperbodyitis and Pavel Daytsuk had minor knee surgery Tuesday morning.  Despite this, we still got to see some wide open hockey, featuring Patrick Kane in "FUCK YOU" mode and Todd Bertuzzi being useless as shit.

Anyway, both teams had some beautiful opportunities, both goalies came up huge and the Hawks scored two dirty goals in front of the net to win it 2-1.

Hayes/Kruger/Brunette - This line was very good all night, with all three guys getting to the net consistently and it paid off with goals for Hayes and Kruger.

Patrick Kane - Patrick Kane didn't score, but he was on fire tonight.  He had a jump in his skates that seemed to have been missing as of late and he created several chances for himself and a few more for Patrick Sharp.  I don't know if he had extra motivation with Toews being out, or if he'd been nursing an injury and has finally gotten right, but more of this please.

Goaltending - Both netminders were excellent tonight, but Corey Crawford was better.  Maybe we should call off that Kane for Miller trade?

Viktor Stalberg - Stalberg played with Sharp and Kane tonight and did an excellent job using his speed.  He was excellent on the forecheck and forced a several turnovers.  Fork still thinks he sucks though.

The only really bad thing about this game was the lack of the best players from each team.  Hopefully Jonathan Toews gets well soon and Pavel Datysuk decides he's happier herding goats on the Russian steppes and goes back there.

For tonight's Ugly I'm going to have to go with Cheap Trick's Rick Nielson experiencing what was (hopefully) the nadir of his musical career by sitting in with the United Center's own Taint Nugget.

Also, did anybody else catch Jimmy Hayes Caddyshack goal celebration?

Up Next: The red hot Dallas Stars come to the United Center on Thursday night.

I was able to listen to the last few minutes of the game on the radio. Huge win for sure. Also, why is Scott dressing? They mentioned on the radio that he only played three minutes. That is a waste of roster space if that's all he is going to be used for. It's time to trade for a defenseman.

There's no defenseman on the block who's any better than what the Hawks currently have.

I'd take Schenn over Hjalmarsson. Is it any coincidence that the Hawks streak started when he went down?

Schenn would be better than Hjalmarsson, but:

          A) is he available, and

          what would he cost, and

          C) is Dylan Olsen a more cost-effective solution?

I think C is the main sticking point for me, not that my opinion matter to Stan. Why take on a bunch of money at this point? An available defenseman would not put this team over the top and make them sudden Cup favorites. So why make that move at all?

I disagree about RIck Nielsen. He actually made that band listenable.
