AT LAST: Blackhawks 5, Kings 2

Well, that took about 3 months longer than it needed to.  The Hawks somehow managed to keep from vomiting after that awful banner-raising ceremony, coming out strong against the defending Cup champs, who never really got anything going all day.  The crowd seemed excited during the ceremony, in which bland pop music (really, "Call Me Maybe" is still a thing?) was used to create a backdrop for the hoisting of the Kings' first championship banner:

Fitting, indeed.  That was basically the high point of the crowd's excitement.  The Kings went out and mostly sucked for the whole game, while the Blackhawks controlled the game from wire to wire. For those worried about a slow start, Captain Serious, Patrick Kane, and Marian Hossa all came out and hit the ground running.  The Hawks even scored on their first power play, something we all know was a sore spot last year.  Let's get to this:

THE GOOD: Marian Hossa.  NBC was kind enough to replay the Raffi Torres hit a few times for us, reigniting anger in the hearts of all hockey fans with any inkling of respect for the game.  Hossa celebrated his return to the NHL rink with a 3-point effort, and was all over the place wreaking havoc.

Jonathan Toews.  The Captain looked good today, making physical plays and crashing the net to get his first goal of the year.  He showed no signs of the flu that he was suffering from yesterday.

THE BAD: Sheldon Brookbank. Yeah, he was pushed into Crawford on the Kings' second goal, but he basically watched while Craw got screened on the first one.  Not a great first game, and I think we might see a different look on D tomorrow.  Rozsival, perhaps.

THE UGLY: Jonathan Quick.  He looked rusty, plain and simple, and the Hawks took advantage of his slow reactions.

Dan Carcillo. He got knocked out of the game in the 3rd period after absorbing a check, (after playing unremarkably to that point) and is going to be out for a while.  Since Saad was with the team already today in case Toews couldn't go, he'll be in the lineup tomorrow.

The organist for the LA Kings.  Nicki Minaj on organ, really?  I actually would have preferred Taint Nugget.

Up next, the Hawks head back to the scene of last year's playoff debacle.  Yeah, they still have hockey in Phoenix, and Raffi Torres can still eat a bag of dicks.

Let's go Hawks!
