Weinerpeg: Hawks 6, Jets 3
All right, here's the deal. I watched the game tonight. Most of it. On and off. During the early parts of the game I was getting kids ready for bed and during the latter stages of it I was drinking several beers. So at this point, I don't remember much, other than what seemed like a sloppy first 2 periods and some awesome plays by Jonathan Toews.
So I warn you, this recap will be terrible and largely incoherent, in part because ExtraSkater.com doesn't the damn possession stats up yet and also because I'm both buzzed and very tired.
What is my point here? I have no point.
Jonathan Toews - Sweet fancy something. Tazer had 4 points tonight, including a terrific goal and a sweet 35 foot pass that was right on Marian Hossa's tape for the game winning goal.
The Red Wedding Line - Toews' linemates, Patrick Sharp and Marian Hossa each chipped in a goal a piece tonight as well.
Ben Smith - Smith has been busting his ass night in and night out. He got himself a goal tonight, and he had several good chances against the Avalanche. I hope he can keep this up, as he's making the 4th line a threat again.
Penalties - The Hawks took too many.
Penalty Kill - Gave up 2 power play goals. That's also too many.
Kris Vesteeg - I honestly wasn't watching that closely, but Steeger obviously wasn't impressing Q tonight. Versteeg got less TOI than every Hawk but Jeremy Morin, so whatever he did, he needs to fix.
At this point, Corey Crawford seems to be fighting it. No, all the goals aren't his fault and no he's not terrible you stupid meatballs. But he does look like a guy who needs a damn rest. Let's hope Q gets Antti Raanta some playing time here, and soon.
Up Next: Hawks take on the Canucks. Remember when that was a thing?
